3 Pitfalls to Exercising Your Power

We all want to feel powerful – that we are making the best out of what we have been given in this life. But at times, we act as if we are powerless to positively influence our own lives.

We are quick to uplift others and even quicker to talk down to ourselves. As you work on exercising your power, keep these pitfalls away and give yourself the best chance to achieve your potential.

  1. Muddy Values – It is said that if you don’t know what you stand for, your will fall for anything. Know what’s important to you and what you stand for. Who you are must not depend on what people think of you.
  2. Blame – blaming others for your situation or your lack of success is a trap. Change starts with you. Take full responsibility to change your own life.
  3. Lack of Forgiveness – Do you harbor guilt, grudges, or malice? If you do, you are digging a grave for yourself. Forgiveness is a daily practice and it helps you to be free and start life anew.

The Power of Choice

How has the power of choice made you powerful or powerless?

Power Your Potential

My husband loves watches.

Over the years, we have brought quite a few of them. Most of the watches we have in our collection require batteries in order for the watches to function properly. When the batteries expire, my husband would change them himself.

But life got in the way and frustration set in, so the wide ranges of watches – Seiko, Invicta, Movado, and others were left for a long time, perhaps between three to five years in the jewelry box waiting for the day to once again tap into their potentials.

Potential, that’s a loaded word. It speaks of the wonders that are possible in our lives and the optimistic hope that we can be more than the eye can see. Potential promises possibilities for peak performance. It implies that success and greatness are for the taking only if you would tap into what is already in your possession.

So for my husband’s birthday, I decided to make one simple decision to help the watches once again tap into their potential and to do what they do best–tell the time. I took a total of ten of them to a repair shop and for just $75 and less than 24 hours, the watches were once again doing what they were designed to do.

We are very similar to these watches. Life can often get in the way of us fulfilling our potential, what we were designed to do. Know this, despite the fact that you have put your potential on hold does not mean that it is no longer working or functionable. Your potential is there waiting for you to power it up in order for you to succeed and develop that greatness that has been dormant inside of you for so long.

How can you power your potential now to radically change your life from moment-to-moment?

Attracting and Developing Lasting Friendships Part II

What a wonderful blessing it is to have friends who truly listen when we speak; they stay in the present with us and value what we have to say.  It is also quite invigorating to have friends who accepts us unconditionally; they know what they can get from us and what they would be crazy to ask for. In this way, we do not have to stress each other out by demanding things that are not in our skill set to give. That brings me to the fifth tip for attracting and developing lasting friendships.

5. Be a Significance Disseminator

Every single person in this world is seeking to be significant to someone, to a cause, or to a community. That is how we deride our meaning, zest, and passion for life. So, make it a point to impart significance. Help make people feel that they matter and they have something special to contribute to this world in this very time that we are living that may transcend their time here on earth. In Romans 12:10, Paul declares that we “Honor one another above yourselves.” People are looking for others to lift them up. The research is clear here as well. We only need ONE person to believe in us to help us accomplish great things. So make it your business to notice and to give a word of encouragement. Be a significance disseminator.

6. Be a Peacemaker

We all love to have peace in our homes, schools, work, churches, and communities. How do we get peace? Does it happen all by itself? No, to have peace we must actively make it happen—we must get involve and actively look to resolve conflicts that are around us. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” That is according to Matthew 5:9. We are aware of certain people in our lives that thrive on turning people against each other, and who uses harsh, hurtful, and damaging words. They thrive on conflict and they will do anything to see a fight. Stay away from them and seek those who have healing and peaceful words. Let’s be mindful of the words we use because they have the power of life and death.

  1. Be a Lover of People

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins” (I Peter 4:8). What an amazing verse. When we practice love, our buckets are never empty; it is a well that keeps on giving. When we love, we care deeply. When we love, we forgive often and quickly. When we love, we share with each. When we love, we practice patience and kindness on a daily basis. When we love, we stand up for others and protect them the best way we know how. When we love, there is no such thing as giving up knowing that there is nothing that is too big, too tall, too strong, or too weak that love cannot conquer.

Zig Ziglar

Fresh start. New beginning.

That is what a new year provides. An opportunity to learn from the past and start anew.

That is precisely where you start today, prepared to unleash your potential to do better and accomplish more than you have ever done throughout the course of your life.

Deep down you know you are capable of more. You aim to have better relationships, physical and spiritual health. You want to increase your performance at work. You want to take your career to the next level. You want to be happy.

Applying a few strategies to your daily routine will help you to breakthrough and tap into your abundant potential.

  1. Talent is not enough, you must believe in your potential for greatness. According to John C. Maxwell, “Belief lifts your talent. Your talent will not be lifted to the highest level unless you also have belief.” There is ample room there to grow since John Powell, the author of Fully Human, Fully Alive: A New Life through a New Vision asserts that the average person utilize only 10% of his or her potential. Imagine how much more you can do if you increase this estimate to 15 or 20 percent.
  2. The power to drive your success has to be more than 100%. You have to be all in. In his book The Art of War, Sun Tzu emphasizes that troops who lose the fight within their minds are 50% more likely to lose the battle. So, the commitment to unleashing your potential and breaking through success is imperative. Nothing less will do.
  3. You will reach your highest potential when you choose to serve others. You are here to add value to the lives of others. The search to add value to the lives of others will provide the fertile ground to unleash your potential and breakthrough success. Money, power, and pleasure afford us with temporary and fleeting satisfaction. Your lasting fulfillment will evolve through your engagement in service above self.

Direction

Image result for directions

Direction is simply the way one chooses to go.

The way that is familiar, comfortable, and full of events–

the ones we keep creating over and over again

the ones we adamantly convince ourselves

that are not in our control.

Direction is simply the choices we make daily.

The choices that seem so trivial and unimportant–

the ones we count as nothingness, emptiness, and worthlessness

the ones we dismiss as insignificant

but extraordinary enough to create our futures.

Direction is fluid, dynamic, and evolving–

where we have the power to change our minds, responses, and actions.

It is the everyday opportunity to create a new you

capable of touching lives, making a difference,

and changing the world.

Today’s Habits = Future Results

We have heard that “your habits determine your future.”

We have neglected the power to change our future for the better.

We can unrecognizably change our lives from failure to success by focusing on the few habits that matter the most.
